WHY DIDNT YOU TELL US THIS ?! I wasted days of my valuable time working around this 'problem'.
So DNA sidechains can be turned relative to their blue arms with bands ?!

Perhaps we should add that trick to the "DNA and Protein" level: https://foldit.fandom.com/wiki/Education/DNA_and_Protein
although it's currently only in education mode… and I just tried adding bands to it, but nothing moved!
