Foldit normally uses slightly more than 100% of one logical processor when sitting idle with it's window maximized or up. (So around 12.5% on a system with eight logical processors.) When it's window is minimized or down, Foldit CPU consumption drops to a tiny fraction of that if no action or recipe is running.
While the Ligand Queue is open, CPU is higher than normal while the window is maximized. The CPU remains high, at around one logical processor, when the window is minimized. It's as is a recipe is running. This is unusual.
It's not clear what the ligand queue is doing with all that CPU power. Other tools, such as Tweak Ligand, don't exhibit this behavior. Actions like MMFF and Wiggle of course consume high CPU with the window down, but they are actively doing something. With Wiggle, CPU consumption drops once the counter begins to spin. It's not clear whether MMFF Wiggle ever gets to the point where it spins.
