Mac: long response to mouse clicks periodically when running a script

One example is just trying to rotate the protein. It can hang for a couple of minutes. Not always, just frequently. Can't minimize the window when that happens, either. Not a crash, so no logs attached. Let me know if those are needed or would be helpful.

This also happens to me in recent ED puzzles with density refinement on my windows 10 client. I run the receipe Quickfix 3.6.3 which used to work smoothly in older ED puzzles, but constantly freezing my client in density refinement puzzles (Windows' no responses popup often showing upon clicking the frozenclient).

I observed the freeze and lags more when the recipe dialog shows "quicksave" and "get score". Once these actions are over, the screen start responding again, then I can terminate the recipe and work on the puzzle again.

Thank you both, this is helpful for us to figure out what is going on!

rosie4loop, when you say "constantly freezing my client in density refinement puzzles", is that just for the giant beast… or for any ED puzzle?

Thanks for the insight- we suspect this has something to do with the behavior of newer density puzzles with regards to quicksaving and will likely have a fix out very soon.

I've double check with puzzle 2457 using the same quickfix recipe. When it did quicksave I still get "not responding" for a second, but its back much sooner than in puzzle 2460.

@apetrides Maybe also ask people how much RAM they have as disk swapping may be involved in the lag. Keep in mind that loading and saving quicksaves also involves disk action. I am yet to test the use of a RAMDISK on a big machine (> 64 Gb RAM) to speedup these actions.

With the latest ED puzzle back to old-style ED with pre-calculated grids, maybe I can put a summary here. Using the 3.6.3 quickfix recipe in all the tests, only have one client running at the same time.

Puzzle 2457 (density refinement, 124 segments): freeze for 1s for quicksave
Puzzle 2460 (density refinement, 816 segments, trimmed to run on one chain only): client would freeze from over 10s to 1 min for quicksave
Puzzle 2463 (pre-calculated grids, 240 segments with NA): no freezes at all, very smooth

To provide more info as suggested by BP, I'm using a Windows 10 laptop with 8GB RAM, and have Foldit installed on a HDD. Could be the reason why the lag/freeze is more obvious. I keep this configuration to mimic the computational resources most students I'm in charge of may have, since I planned to use it in training sessions or workshops.

In the past I also tried to run Foldit on a Windows 10 surface tablet with 16GB RAM and SSD. But since the cooling system wasn't very good for the tablet I haven't tried the density refinement puzzles on that device. Older puzzles of various sizes worked there as I recall, were attempts to fold protein with fingers.
