Consider using the Steam client developed by Valve to distribute the Fold It software. Steam has a very large user base of gamers and the Fold It project would gain a huge amount of exposure. Valve is located in Bellevue. www.valvesoftware.com
The idea is good (I've also got a steam account), but you should keep in mind that FoldIt is Beta and non-profit.
I don't know how it looks like in reference to existing laws.
Can imagine, that the valve people want to have something (whatever it will be) if they offer FoldIt on their platform.
Actually, steam has betas. Hell, I played in the TF2 beta. As per adding to steam, its not THAT hard, and it'd offer more exposure to a broader userbase.
… and they do have a working server system ;)
