I'm a geek.
I'm a 28 year old in Tampa, FL, USA. I'm into protein folding as a hobby and past time that benefits people in some small way. I've been active with Rosetta@home for a while, I'm sitting somewhere over 100k points with an average of about 500 there. When I found out you can do this manually and make it into a game, I came here. As per what's gotten me into proteins in general, it stems from my family's association with the medical industry. From nurses to unit secretaries, to orderlies to telemetry techs, just about everyone from siblings to aunts and uncles to grandparents either currently work for, or retired from hospitals.
As per my computer, its got a decent cpu, ok memory, average hard drive, budget bin graphics. To keep it running, I have about a dozen fans in it (its actually not very loud).
I'm looking for a sponsor for Fold. It!, and would be happy to place a sponsor's thank you and link in my profile, as well as set their page as my home page. The biggest need is a decent graphics card. I've ran Fold. It! on a friends computer with similar specs otherwise, but he has a much nicer video card, and it makes a huge difference! Second up to a video card would be either better processor, or faster ram, in that order… a video/cpu combo would be the best thing I could get. As per potential sponsors, I'm an AMD/ATI fan, which is generally cheaper that Intel for similar bang-to-buck. I'm folding while doing web design as my income at the moment, and I don't have enough to upgrade my computer after making sure my truck keeps running. It nickle and dimes me to death (this week was a faulty fuel gauge, flat tire, and faulty fuel pump relay), and if only gas wasn't so expensive.
