Description

This puzzle is about trying to build a scaffold around a known binding helix to the H1 flu. We already have a few designs that we like from the computers that you can use as inspiration (see puzzle comments). While our designs are based on proteins that are known to exist, we are excited to see what you can build from scratch.

____________
More info about this Flu Puzzle:

In this Foldit puzzle the helix is frozen, but you can mutate some of the residues on it.
We want you to build & design both sections on either side of the helix.
To keep the helix from moving, we have cut both those sections on either side of the helix so you can work on them with affecting the helix.
You will notice that both ends have very strong constraints to the either side of the helix.

As discussed in the Scientist Chat (http://fold.it/portal/node/991963) we have also added minimal constraints to keep these two sections in the same general area as the above screenshots.
We have also trimmed as much of the Flu as possible and frozen all its sidechains to speed up Shake and Wiggle.

I don't see any other comments on here about their FoldIt application constantly crashing on this puzzle so I am assuming I am one of the few that it is happening to. FoldIt will only run for about five minutes before it crashes (even when I only use the basic functions under Modes and Action). I am still a Rookie at this but I have not had this problem before and I have been playing a lot since January of this year. I am on an Win XP laptop so this might be an issue.

Can you send us the last few lines of your log.txt right after a crash? (Before you relaunch Foldit).

You'll find your log.txt file here:

on Windows:
if you installed after 8/23/2011, they will be in your installation directory (the default is C:\Program Files\Foldit\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\Foldit)
if you installed prior to 8/23/2011:
on Windows XP at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Foldit\
on Windows 7 and Vista at C:\ProgramData\Foldit\
