To my understanding you already have a Linux client ready but haven't decided on a packaging format. I would like to point out that the Linux version of the Penny Arcade commercial game (with a free demo) was released as a simple .tar.gz file containing the files necessary, no installation other than extracting necessary. It was released this month, so we're not talking about ancient history when fancier stuff didn't exist. I don't think anybody complained about the lack of "proper" installation format, and this is a game they're asking money for. So my message would be this: if you have a working Linux binary, just put it out there, in a simple .tar.gz file if you won't bother without anything fancier. It'll just work, and people won't complain about it. They will complain about the lack of a Linux release…
Since the announcement for a native Linux client has been made over a month ago, I just wanted to ask, it there is any release date?
I just registered and now I can't play :( I guess I'll try the wine-workaround later this evening. (Ubuntu 8.04 32Bit, to add another set of data)
Now it's nearly the end of May. Where is the client?
If you don't know how to make it, just release the source!
If foldit is free software, I would like to test it and translate it into Chinese and recommend it to others. But now, it isn't the case. :{
YOU give us a linux version of foldit and WE give you a good folded protein - isn't that an fine offer? :)!
here too, linux 64bit would be great ! Currently its running fine in vmware, but not as fluid and flawless as it would natively …
greetings @everyone
come on release the client or source … why do we always have to wait for ever …
" Yes, we will have a linux version in time for the public release in May."
… You really should hurry up …
It's already June in Eastern Europe.
Should I buy and install a copy of Windows just for Fold.it? Or should I continue running a unix, like a real scientist?
Funnily enough, I also have a Mac, but it's a PPC machine so I cannot run the Intel binary.
As others have pointed out, a source tarball would be the best option, and would solve the issue of different architectures and distros.
Now, it's 09:20, June 1st here in China, and most of Asia and Europe are in June. Where is the Linux client (or source)?
Wait till June in America…
If you want to know, why there is still no linux version of Foldit, then just to take a little look to the lower edge of this homepage:
"Supported by: UW Animation Research Labs, UW Baker Lab, HHMI, DARPA, Microsoft, and Adobe"
It is a dishonor!
