Program

Hi,

I am running Fold It on an HP laptop with XP HE and I recently viewed the tutorial video. The tutorial is quite different from what I have on my screen: There appear to me more functions available in the tutorial than I have.

Along those lines: do new program updates automatically load and run when one begins the program?

Well ???

Where is the documentation and new materials reflecting those changes??

level project at the moment. It still has lots of work to do and improvements to make. Formal things like you are talking about will probably come later.

How are the users supposed to test the beta "features" if there are no instructions on how to use the new features?
Or even know the new features and functions even exit??
Sounds pretty counter-productive to me, or just another example of only the "in-crowd" having access to these things.

The "in-crowd" – if there even is one – doesn't have access to any better documentation than you have. Given the rate at which changes are being introduced to the game, you're really being awfully demanding. Relax, play around with stuff, see what you can do, and don't get so frustrated.

There certainly is an "in crowd" who are in contact with the developers. You see them on the chat - talking about what's coming out next, or how they know that this particular thing doesn't work the same way anymore.

The HELP only provides access to the functionality - not how to use it effectively or even how to use it at all.

As an example - Where's the instructions for using the rebuild function? That's been around for a while, although kept private for the in crowd. There has been plenty of time to post a document or make an additional video to show how it's used.

It's not worth releasing new features without documentation. It's an integral part of the software cycle. Quit using "beta" status as an excuse.

That's because those either are the developers, or they've discovered things through trial and error.

Also - what do you mean by instructions for rebuild? I thought it was pretty obvious - if you don't lock anything, it rebuilds the entire structure you right-clicked plus the adjacent loops, if it isn't already a loop. It's also pretty obvious what it's doing (it tries various radically-different backbones and selects the best of them, as long as it's better than the current protein).

Do you mean like when and where to use it? Isn't that part of the puzzle? Maybe they want to see how we use the tools first before giving out "instructions"? The announcement already suggested editing the helices/sheets and then using 'rebuild' to reshape those areas, but there are probably other ways to use the tool too.

I think what you want is more tutorial levels, and those take time.
