By the way, I put some pictures out there for the first set. I have learned that people are still using dialup modems to connect. Pictures can make a website useless for people with 9.6k modems. Someone has added video advertisements to the mix as well. If people think the picures are helpful, I will complete the rest and move all of them to a separate page so the quick hints can be text and the pictures can be there for people who need more. Since the pictures are PNG I can just draw on them and add text as needed.
I'm pretty sure that some of the offensive people in chat aren't High School students assigned FoldIt intro puzzles but people with problems. I've notice similar behaviors in bullitin boards and UseNet. It gets real hard to get rid of tenatious people who are intent on disruption. They have no problem creating new accounts as fast as old ones can be disusered. Some can be quite bright and will learn of tricks such as /ignore and just keep changing their user id. I had problems for decades in comp.ai.philosophy where if I said the wrong thing the group would be flooded with messages and my email inbox would have thousands of emails a day.
As FoldIt becomes more popular, and it will, some will be attracted to it who are offended by the very notion they think it embodies. I have yet to see an effective counter measure.
How about creating a chat-bot which automatically kicks out or silences users for some time if they use special words, or write the same text over and over again?
You can even detect if a person is writing nonsense like rtverzuzsbdferbf6dzrs to disturb,
if you check words for their order of consonants and vowels.
Let's just instigate IRC bot wars, shall we?
A better idea would just be moderators who are there, and NO BOTS ALLOWED!
I've got IRC logging now, so will post every few days any new interesting logs as additional reasons to add this feature…

As a hint towards another means to curb the two abusive troublemakers, ALL NPHS activities originate from iii57.northplatte.k12.ne.us otherwise known as 162.127.32.57 … and yes, this would also curb the benefit of the rest of the class working with the program.

Wrote a lengthy email addressed to the teacher, principal, asst super, and super. I praised fold.it as a teaching aid to bring biochem to students in a basic manner and how a game can be used as a teaching tool. Yes, I applied full PR mode, even though I stated at the start I'm merely another, concerned, user.
Was told, by two of the parties I emailed, the two who cause so much grief will be dealt with.
We have more IRC ops now so we can easily control situations like that.
Kick/ban are good tools for that.
