sorry for being so long winded on this one…
-the old game client works- I had an older one that I installed, did not realize it.
-the new game client does not- went through previous steps, and the same resulting complaint of win32 error.
Old client will probably not work because of changed SSL certificates.
Try download and install fresh copy of Foldit to another location, ie c:\games\foldit
You can (should) copy your options.txt and all.macro to new directory to have same options and cookbook.
I tried to reinstall it to another directory, no good same complaint…
Foldit.exe is not a valid win32 application.
Not sure what to do from this point. The older client works just fine, the new one does not.
well.. not just fine, can not access the server… but it runs unlike the newer one.
I took the 12-18-2012 foldit.exe (old version)copied and pasted it into the new version installation directory… IT WORKED! I have to admit I was a bit shocked, but I have access to new stuffs, and… and… well it works :) Soooo if someone has this issue in the future, just have them grab and old client past the exe in there good to go.
It is indeed!! I right clicked on the installer, unblocked the installer. My computer had it blocked because "It came from another computer". After that I used an older foldit.exe from 12-18-12 with the new download… it connects to the servers and am able to update as needed.
I have no idea why this worked…. but the win32 complaint has been resolved.
I have worked as an internet tech in the past, mostly with networking, setting up servers, and building the occasional system.
I am usually able to resolve these issues on my own, this one was just weird. But it worked.
My personal system is old… by current standards it is ancient, but is does what it needs to do for me (for now) the usb ports are failing and heat issues are starting to come up. To upgrade to something new that would be as current as possible (just now windows 8 ICK!!!) would cost me more than it is worth, I have four kids and money is easily spent elsewhere! hehe.
Anyhow.. I am rambling, the issue seems to be resolved. I have another more current exe that a friend sent, have not tried it yet will later today.
Thanks for all that helped!

I installed the latest version of Fold It over the old version and now I get the message "not a valid win32 application." I have no access to the old exe file now so I can't play :(. if anyone could provide a download link to a working Foldit.exe file, I would greatly appreciate it. P.S. This is my first post on the forum. :)
I'm a Chinese, so my expression may be full of faults. (I apologize.)
I download it a few years ago, and it worked well. Later, I didn't play it for language. Recently, I found a patch made by a Chinese which can translate the English part to Chinese. Though it, there is no language problem. But after downloading again, I found it didn't work and the same error with sadness. I also tried the old version. As the same as your problem, SSL connect error. The installer is named after x86, but why is it not a valid win32 application? I'm looking forward the solution.

If you could provide as much technical information as you can over in our feedback section, that would help us a lot to narrow down your issue and hopefully get you back up and folding!
